چکیده

We present the ROSAT HRI X-ray measurements of 19 spectroscopically confirmed optically-selected QSOs in the 12′ radius region in the Selected Area 57. The optical-to-Xray spectral index αox ranges from 1.25 to 1.7, consistent with brighter QSOs. We have investigated the relationship between soft X-ray emission observed with the ROSAT HRI and optical colors (UJFN) of optically-selected QSOs in SA57. The optical to X-ray spectral index αox is found to be correlated with the U − J − F + N color, by a combined effect of αox and U , N excess correlations. Possible explanations are the physical link between broad emission-lines/Balmer continuum, and the ionizing radiation source seen in X-ray and/or a geometrical effect.

An X-ray Survey in SA 57 with XMM-Newton

Context. The maximum number density of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs), as deduced from X-ray studies, occurs at z <∼1, with lower luminosity objects peaking at smaller redshifts. Optical studies lead to a different evolutionary behaviour, with a number density peaking at z ≈2 independently of the intrinsic luminosity, but this result is limited to active nuclei brighter than the host galaxy. A s...

On the Nature of Soft X-ray Weak Quasi-Stellar Objects

Recent studies of Quasi-Stellar Objects (QSOs) with ROSAT suggest the existence of a significant population of Soft X-ray Weak QSOs (SXW QSOs) where the soft X-ray flux is ∼ 10–30 times smaller than in typical QSOs. Why are these QSOs soft X-ray weak, and what is their relationship to Broad Absorption Line QSOs (BAL QSOs) and X-ray warm absorber QSOs? As a first step in a systematic study of th...

Broad Absorption Line Qsos Observed by the Rosat Pspc

Recent results from the ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS) have shown that broad absorption line (BAL) QSOs are either highly absorbed or underluminous in the soft X-ray bandpass. Here, we extend this work by analyzing all known bona fide BALQSOs observed within the inner 20 of the ROSAT PSPC. This sample includes both targeted and serendipitous exposures ranging from 8 to 75 ksec. Despite these deep ...

Cross - correlation of the unresolved X - ray background with faint galaxies

At the faint end of the deepest X-ray surveys, a population of X-ray luminous galaxies is seen. In this paper, we present the results of a cross-correlation between the residual, unresolved X-ray photons in a very deep X-ray survey and the positions of faint galaxies, in order to examine the importance of these objects at even fainter flux levels. We measure a significant correlation on all ang...
